Sun shines on Thank You BBQ
April 21 brought out the best of weather, volunteers, and guests. The day couldn’t have been more different than a year ago as about 600 happy people dropped in over the course of the afternoon to enjoy the sunshine and share some excellent food. For many residents it was a day to re-encounter volunteers who came from the City and across the province to help in their time of need. There were hugs and tears for members of Ottawa Valley Search and Rescue, the Mennonite communities, Legion 616, WCEFA, Eli El-Chantiry, and some of the key members of Flood Relief; Laura Murphy, Heather Lucente, and Janet Lavern. The celebration was MC’d by Boom Radio’s Jon Mark with presentations from CBBCA President Angela Bernhardt & Flood Relief Director Heather Lucente. The event was visited by Mayor Watson, the Citizen, and the CBC.
Special thanks go out to Megan Goodkey & Sobey’s who once again donated the day’s food and beverages, the 60+ volunteers who baked, prepared, set-up, cooked, cleaned up, and performed a myriad of other functions to pull everything together, and of course the Tall Boys Band who capped off a great day with an excellent party.
