The Northwind Centre, formerly the Constance Bay Community Centre, is the culmination of 40 years of passion and building. Created in 1978, expanded in 1992, and expanded again in 2015, the CBBCA’s Sandhills Phase 2 Renovation plan is bringing together our heritage building and the Sandhill’s Phase 1 expansion into a single unified facility that provides one great, consistent experience and even greater opportunities.

In 2017, given everything else that was going on, we made a surprising amount of progress;

• a complete replacement and upgrade of the existing main floor washrooms and common area,
• a new accessible family washroom with change table,
• a new maintenance room to consolidate a lot of miscellaneous “stuff”,
• the Multi-Purpose room received a new coat of paint,
• the new Main Floor Club Room, a combination program and leisure space, is ready to open,
• Link Room renovations to create a separate chair storage room, painting, improved lighting, and new cabinets,
• Rural Root completed the first half of the second floor performers prep area renovation by creating more usable space, adding makeup mirrors, and other significant cosmetic changes.

There is still a new Link room floor & ceiling to complete, painting touch ups, and some sorting and storage of user group supplies to complete but the main floor enhancement work is essentially completed.

The Millennium Kitchen is the most significant and most exciting component of Sandhills Phase 2. The project will replace the old 2nd floor washrooms and bar to create a new 800 ft2 kitchen & bar area enabling us to offer new experiences and opportunities. Borne out of technology and the imagination and experience of local chefs the Millennium kitchen will do everything better than you can imagine. People working the kitchen for one of the dozens of church and CBBCA events, weddings, and anniversaries will find the kitchen’s banquet configuration a welcome and dramatic improvement; be prepared to love it. In its end-state you’ll be able to pop in and join a class to make a great soup for lunch, whip up something different to take home for dinner, or join a gourmet club for a great group cooked meal; our Millennium Kitchen is a concept made for you. Once fully operational we expect to run 15 activities a week for groups of 10. Visit our Sandhills page for complete details. This work is funded by special events and generous Sandhills donors. In 2017 the engineering and design for the Millennium Kitchen was completed and several quotes for the project were received. Capital reserves for the project have reached $65,000 thanks to events like Eli’s birthday, which raised $24,000, and Paint Nites. This is still well short of the estimated $120,000 required; the board is reviewing options, including additional fundraising & City Capital partnerships, in an effort to kick-off the project in 2018 or 2019.
