2) OUTDOOR HOCKEY; starts January 6th
Canada’s only outdoor hockey league east of Saskatchewan drops the puck on January 6th. For boys and girls 5 to 15 the WC OHL isn’t on the road to winning an NHL contract but it is on the path to years of fun and physical activity playing hockey for the joy of the game in a relatively non-competitive environment. Registration is $60 plus a 2014 membership at http://test.pdixon.caprograms/families-2/hockey/
3) THE RINK IS OPEN:
With an unseasonably chilly start to winter the Outdoor Rink opened on December 17 and is in good shape. The family puddle rink and skating circle are already well on the way and will be in great shape by Christmas… assuming it stops snowing one of these days.
4) SANTA’S DAY
Its really not known how long it has been going on but it has been at least 50 years and Santa’s Day is alive and well. This year’s event, with the support of the WC Wildcats Hockey Club, Councillor Eli El Chantiry, the CBBCA, and you, raised $2,500 and 10 big boxes of food for the West Carleton Emergency Food Bank. This is our 10th season of bringing Santa and the WCEFB together. Pictures taken with Santa are now available on the website.
5) SANDHILLS UPDATE:
Propelled by a half dozen events, generous donors, and nearly 100 new members and 2014 Membership renewals Sandhills leap forward $148,000 since our last e-letter on October 30th. Committed funding now stands at $1,098,000.
The tender of the design and engineering has closed, the winning bidder will be determined any day now. Once awarded, the 3 to 4 month design & engineering process is a critical count-down on our funding. It will establish the build cost and minimum community contribution needed to keep the project moving.
We expect a minimum build cost of $1,500,000 which, after considering in-kind contributions, means we need to have committed funding of about $1,300,000. Reaching $1,100,000 in 2013 would be an important milestone. Remember; every dollar raised is matched by the city and will receive a tax receipt that can get you a rebate of nearly 50%. If you haven’t made your mark please do it soon.
