Cable Ferry – Important Information for Boaters
June 24, 2014
Please be advised that Quyon Ferry is now a cable ferry. Cable ferrys are connected to the shore-line on both banks of the river by a very heavy cable. When the ferry is moving it reels in the cable at the front of the boat bringing it to a level which can be slightly below or above the surface. If you pass in front of the ferry, even as it is leaving the dock, damage or injury are very likely. The cable at the rear lays on the bottom of the river.
Important:
- Never pass in front of the cable ferry.
- It is best to pass by the cable ferry when it is NOT moving.
- If you absolutely must pass by the cable ferry when it is moving, always pass behind it, and stay 800 feet away.
- During a crossing, the cable ferry will raise the cable from the river into the Bow end of the Ferry and release the cable back into the river at the Stern end as the Ferry makes way.
- Dot not fish near the cable ferry.
- Do not do water sports near cable ferry.
